Book Thief Summary
It is 1932 in Nazi Germany. World War 2 strikes the nation, and death has taken its toll with the Fuhrer(Hitler) in charge. It has taken Liesel's family, and so she lives with her new foster parents, where her life changes forever when she picks up a single object. Partially hidden in the snow, this young, illiterate girl finds a book. And so her education begins, along with her journey of thievery, as her foster father helps her along the path to the words of the world. Her love for these words grows, and in no time she is stealing books from book burnings, the mayor's wife's library, and wherever else she can find them. But her life of thievery is not an easy one, because her foster home has been opened to another, a Jew. This new secret brings good and bad into Liesel's life, because they are now in danger of the Nazi law. A tale of a girl who finds friendships in a Jesse Owens obsessed runner, a book, and a Jewish Fist Fighter with a name of Max Vandeburg, told by Death himself.
